Design Information

In today's environment it's very easy for anyone to have a presence on the Internet. Just submit your content to a web host and you're on the 'Net. If you are considering having a web site for your business, there are some issues you will need to resolve before you start the creation process.

First let's take a moment to determine the purpose of a web site. Small businesses are jumping onto the internet like lemmings to the sea, as they focus on reaping big financial rewards. They may be utilizing various techniques available to bring traffic to their site, but the majority are still failing miserably. Internet marketing research shows that traffic to your web site is not instantly equal to dollars in your pocket. Visitors will not necessarily buy what you are selling. All indications are that if you create a web site for those reasons, you will in all likelihood fail. You might as well just easily purchase a lottery ticket and expect it to pay off.

Many businesses have avoided creating a web site because they don't want to become an online business. They want face to face contact to sell their products, or they are a service provider that requires personal contact. They view a web site as an actual business, and they like their small friendly hometown business just like it is.

While it is true that many businesses today are strictly online businesses, a majority of companies with a web site are not. These companies see a web site as a way of keeping their current customers abreast of specials and updates, as well as presenting their business to a vast number of potential clients and resources, all at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising. They use a web site to strengthen and improve what is already in place.

More specifically this second group sees their web site as a means to provide timely information to a group of people, i.e their current customers. Not all reasons for being online directly translate into money. but indirectly it certainly means a loyal, informed customer base.
